Jamil Overton, Deputy Executive Director and cofounder of The Murals of the Mind Project; is a native Philadelphian whose main focus is development and building alliances with for profit businesses and other organizations. His skill and expertise resulted in securing past and present partnerships with organization such as Mighty Writers and Diversified Community Services. Jamil also developed associations on behalf of M.O.M with various area business executives, ministers, community leaders, and city officials; including former Philadelphia mayor, Dr. W. Wilson Goode, Executive Director for Amachi and Self, Inc.
Jamil is an entrepreneur and has been a practicing consultant for more than 30 years, specializing in business development, alternative financing and Class B banking. He is the founder and Master Broker of an alternative funding company, Global Funding Resources (GFR), which provides cash infusion solutions and consultation to small- and medium-sized businesses and municipalities.
In his early career pursuits, Jamil wrote and developed the youth focused television program, ‘In The Mix’; which targeted adolescents and young adults aged 15 to 20 that was presented in a news magazine format, using young hosts and correspondents. Syndicated by PBS Television, the show had historic significance because it was the first program the network targeted specifically to a non-preschool / elementary school-age market.
During his long career, Jamil has mentored youth from various communities and cultures, guiding each in their career interests; encouraging them to imagine life opportunities beyond their current circumstances an national borders.
Jamil earned a European Economic Community Program Certificate from Université Libre de Rueil Malmaison in Rueil Malmaison, France. He is studied at Temple University and Cheney State College currently Cheney University of Pennsylvania.
